Wherever you see this Chinese fishnet, think of Cochin, the ?Queen of the Arabian Sea?. Fisheries, coir, and small-scale industry are the key words which distinguish Cochin, and the Institute of Small Enterprises and Development is ideally situated at this industrial and commercial hub of Kerala State. With 1.18 per cent of the total area of India, but 3.43% of its population, Kerala is a small State, tucked away in the country?s south-western corner. With an area of 38863 sq, kms, the State has a commendable record of physical quality of life of its people.

The city of Cochin houses several academic and R& D institutions, such as, the Cochin University of Science and Technology, the various Institutes under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, and of the Department of Ocean Development, Ministry of Defence, and the Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India. The port City is well connected by air, train and by bus, with the capital city of Trivandrum in the South, and with other major cities and towns in the country.

Cochin, of late, has occupied the world atlas of industrial and IT infrastructure, by adding two mega infrastructure, viz, the upcoming International Container Transshipment Terminal (ICTT) at Vallarpadam and the Smart City, the largest Information Technology hub in Asia.
